History of HSSET

Mission Statement

The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is dedicated to enriching the lives of pets and people through advocacy, education, and forever homes for our companion animals.

Brief History

Founded in 1962, the Humane Society of Southeast Texas (HSSET) has been a Southeast Texas institution for over fifty years. HSSET is a community-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal shelter. We rely on private donations from individuals, businesses and foundations to save homeless animals. HSSET receives no tax dollars from federal, state, or local government funding, nor are we a chapter of any national organization. When you donate to HSSET, you are helping the over 2,000 pets that enter our doors each year.

The Humane Society of Southeast Texas is dedicated to being transparent and accountable with our financial documents. HSSET is in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and nationally recognized nonprofit standard organizations, such as Guidestar, Charity Navigator and the Better Business Bureau.
