Hurricane Laura Evacuation

2020 has certainly been an eventful year but she isn’t done dragging us through the ringer yet. In August parts of Texas and Louisiana were devastated by a Cat 4 hurricane living many without power, water, or a roof over their head.

Thankfully HSSET received minimal damage and a few days before the hurricane hit land we had evacuated all of our animals to rescue partners clearing out our entire shelter. Once we realized how many people in surrounding cities and states needed our help we jumped into action. We cleared out multiple shelters in Texas and in Louisiana whose animals were sitting in damaged facilities without power or water in the summer heat.

We would like to say thank you to our staff who worked around the clock to make both the evacuation and recovery successful, thank you to our donors who help support our transport program, and thank you to our rescue partners for assisting in getting our shelter pets to safety !
